From the Desk of Toronto Public Health - And Available for Community Garden Leaders:

Air Quality Health Index Toolkit

.

Air pollution is associated with thousands of premature deaths and hospitalizations. In response to this, Environment Canada and Health Canada have led the development of a health-based air quality index, known as the Air Quality Health Index.

.

The Air Quality Health Index is a scale that reports the health risk associated with local air pollution levels. It reports the health-risk on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 representing the lowest risk to health. The index tells you when it is safe to exercise outdoors and provides specific health messages for people most affected by air pollution.

.

Toronto Public Health has designed an electronic Toolkit to acquaint organizations like yours with this new tool so that you may use it to plan your activities and also educate and promote it to your clients. Toronto Public Health is offering this Toolkit to you free of charge.

.

  • This Toolkit includes:
    • A short film
    • Radio and web advertisements
    • Pre-written newsletter articles
    • PowerPoint presentation
    • Print resources.

.

Do you think you could make use of this Toolkit? If so, please email

Carrie at carmstrong@cleanairpartnership.org.

.

To view contents of the toolkit, please visit: www.toronto.ca/health/airquality

.

All the resources can be downloaded off our Clean Air Partnership Website at: www.cleanairpartnership.org

Request for an off leash dog area

In the Symington Avenue Playground, there is a need for an off leash area for the local pet dogs.
There is an unused area of the park that would be ideal for this.

If you are interested in having an off leash area in this park, please look at the directions below that the city requires. If you want to join the Dog Association, then please send your message of interest to:

As soon as we have five or more people interested, we will set a date for a meeting at the Perth Dupont Library and update this page.
